Meet The Team
The MYDA Team is comprised of a strong group of individuals all across Montana all with a direct connection to Type 1 Diabetes. Our team ranges from long time Type Ones, parents of Type Ones, Pediatric Endocrinologists from all across the state, Certified Diabetic Educators and nutritionists. Everyone has a connection. Led by our fearless leader Tonya Fuhrmann, who stepped up to make sure Type One kids in Montana have a safe Diabetes camp to go to right here in our beautiful state. She is flanked by mission-driven board members that help make this mission a reality!
The MYDA Board

Founder & Executive Director
Tonya Fuhrmann
I've been type 1 since I was 9 years old. For the past 22 years I have been involved with camp. I created MYDA with the help of Karen Giesy in November of 2019. In March of 2020, the 9-person board and 34-person committee was brought together to ultimately form the best non-profit volunteer group one could ask for.

Medical Coordinator
Jodie McIlvain
Hi, I’m Jodie. I have had type 1 diabetes for 41 years and now work as a PA in diabetes. I was a camper as a child and credit my camp experiences for much of my success with my own diabetes. I continued to work as a volunteer as a young adult until I took some time off to raise my three amazing boys, Riley, Braden and Kade with my husband, Corey. I feel passionately about helping kids with diabetes and am excited to serve as the medical coordinator for MYDA and help make Camp MYDA the best experience possible.

Vice President
Jeremy Rolfsmeyer
I am the father of a 15-year-old Type One Diabetic named Thaymen. I am the general manager of Grizzly Gold and Silver in Great Falls, and I enjoy long walks on the beach. I am active on many of the Online T1 parent support groups and have been a repeat guest on the Juicebox Podcast. My only goal is to make sure my son's life is as full as possible.

Treasurer
Jennifer Reardon
I received my master’s in accounting with a specialization in taxation from Texas A&M University in 1998 and worked for both Arthur Andersen LLP and Deloitte LLP for six years. After leaving public accounting, I spent another seven years in private industry before taking time away to raise my three kids. Since then, I’ve worked on and off in a consulting capacity and currently handle some light accounting work for a venture capital fund. In a volunteer capacity, I served as Treasurer of my children’s elementary school PTA for three years and as President for two. My son was diagnosed with T1D at age 13—he turns 18 next week—and I would love to use my skills to support the T1D community in any way I can.

In addition to my experience as Western Montana District Manager, I am the mother of two type one diabetic daughters. My youngest daughter, Logan, was diagnosed at age 4 and my middle daughter, Micah, at age 16. There is no genetic predisposition in our family and their diagnosis was a total shock to this MN girl. We dove in deep to learn as much as possible with limited resources and a rural healthcare system that lacked in opportunity. My girls, both unique in their journey with regard to acceptance and care, both found encouragement and tools to better manage life with diabetes at Montana Diabetes Camp. Doctor Fred Gunville was our introduction to both the ADA and youth camp and we’re forever grateful. Being the first juvenile diabetic in our small school system, I became an advocate, and at times an activist, to facilitate education and understanding for many students and educators. I’m personally invested in research for a cure, but my passion is that children have a safe space to feel a sense of belonging and normalcy and learn to better navigate their care. What better opportunity than to serve on this board as they see fit.

I have had type 2 diabetes for 20 years. I was born and raised in Havre, Montana and now live in Kalispell. I have had a varied work career including jobs in gas and oil exploration, machinist for the BN Railroad and worked in the IT field for the last 25 years in various industries. I retired from paid work in 2019 and have been dedicating my time trying to make my community and Montana a better place. I have been involved with diabetes charities through the Lions Club since 2005. It is a great pleasure to be involved with MYDA.

Board Member & Fundraising Support
Karen Giesy
My name is Karen Giesy. My grandson Jayden was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 9 and my life changed forever! It was my goal to do what I could to help Jayden have a promising future. That’s when Tonya and I decided to start a nonprofit to assist kids and families with TID.

I grew up in Rudyard, MT where helping your neighbors was a way of life. It was my good fortune to spend my career working in Glacier National Park. I am now retired and giving back to the community however I can. My life is great with my husband Roger, son Ryan and his fiancé Janay, our daughter, Abreon and her husband David, along with our three amazing grandchildren Jayden, Jazmine and Dominic.

Brooke Foth
My name is Brooke Foth, and I have been the Lead Registered Dietitian at Camp MYDA for the past four years. Diabetes camp is one of my favorite weeks of the year, as I love seeing campers thrive, build friendships, and enjoy an unforgettable experience in a safe and supportive environment. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 17. My diagnosis inspired me to pursue a career in nutrition and diabetes education. I worked as a pediatric diabetes educator and RD for three years and currently serve as a Clinical Representative for Tandem Diabetes Care, where I train individuals on insulin pump therapy across Montana and Northern Wyoming. With both professional expertise and lived experience, I am passionate about supporting and educating individuals with type 1 diabetes. I believe my leadership, commitment, and firsthand understanding of the diabetes community would make me a valuable addition to the MYDA Board, helping ensure the camp continues to positively impact and empower those it serves.

Trevor Gnauck
Hello my name is Trevor Gnauck. I am a lifelong Montanian and a parent of a Type 1 Diabetic. I have been working in banking for the past 11 years, and have worked a variety of jobs before that, from home/auto audio to excavating. In 2010 our daughter Lily was born. A few months before her third birthday we started noticing the symptoms of diabetes. My wife is a teacher and received training on recognizing the symptoms and I had a cousin whose son was diagnosed as type one about a year before. We now have two cousins that are type 1 diabetics. While they live far away it always comes up as a subject of conversation when talking to family. We also have a 9 year old son, who is full of curiosity and energy. Simon and I enjoy getting out for bike rides and making terrible puns/dad jokes.

Jordan
Hello, my name is Jordan Curran. I discovered I had the autoimmune disease Type 1 Diabetes on February 8th, 2021. I did not know a lot about the disease at the time, and I was scared for my future. Looking back on when I was first diagnosed, I am glad to be here. I have learned so much about diabetes, nutrition, and people. My endocrinologist, Claire Stienburg, suggested to me in 2022 that I join a summer camp for diabetic children. I was 19, so I would not be able to be a camper, but I could help as a counselor. I started as a busy bee and ended up helping the nutrition team a lot. Since that first year at camp, I have helped coordinate and manage donations, plan snacks, teach kids about diabetes and nutrition, represent MYDA at banquets, and tell everyone I can about MYDA. Camp every year has been the only place I truly feel I am not alone, and I do not need to hide any aspect of myself. This organization encourages me to better myself. I want to build a world where no kid with T1D has to feel alone or different. I have worked at an after-school and summer program for over two years, gaining valuable knowledge and experience mentoring youth, fostering a supportive and engaging environment, and learning to better lead and talk in front of people. I take pride in being a creative thinker, a compassionate human, and I genuinely enjoy helping fellow T1Ds navigate the challenges and joys of diabetes. I am excited for the opportunity to bring my experience and perspective to the organization and contribute to its continued success.
